Input Sector Review: Pumps 2015 (PDF Report)

South Africa has an established pumps industry that is considered to be well equipped and highly professional.

The quality of pumps produced locally is of a high standard, with several local manufacturers producing pumps in accordance with international standards. Further, it is believed that South Africa can manufacture pumps economically.

There are more than 100 companies active in the local market. About half of these companies manufacture locally, although many of the companies that manufacture locally specialise in a certain range of products while importing others because it is more cost effective. The balance of the companies engage entirely in the supply of imported products.

Some local pump manufacturers are private entities, producing pumps from their own design. Others produce from their own design, and manufacture locally and elsewhere, while others manufacture locally, but under licence to international operators.

Creamer Media’s 2015 Input Sector Review on Pumps provides an overview of South Africa’s pumps industry with particular focus on pump manufacture and supply, aftermarket services, marketing strategies, local and export demand, imports, sector support, investment corporate activity, regulatory requirements, availability of materials and skills, electricity and environmental considerations, as well as innovations in the sector.

This report draws from material published over the past 12 months and is a summary of other sources of information published in Engineering News and Mining Weekly, as well as of information available in the public domain. This report does not purport to provide an analysis of market trends.
