Early cars lacked oil filtration. In 1923, Sweetland and Greenhalgh patented the first oil filter, "Purolator." By the 1940s, filtration systems became standard in mass-produced vehicles.
The 1960s introduced convenient "spin-on" filters. Advances over the decades improved efficiency, and today, all engines come with advanced filtration to enhance oil cleanliness and engine life.
