1981 TO 2021
40 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS PUBLISHING

 

Creamer Media was launched by journalist Martin Creamer on Friday 13 of March 1981. Creamer Media’s first title was a fortnightly newspaper called Engineering News. It soon became a very successful weekly newspaper increasingly well-respected by industrial and mining decision-makers as a crucial source of business news and information.

 

In the 1990s, Mining Weekly was launched as an additional publication distributed each week with Engineering News. With the advent of the internet and digital media,the daily news sites EngineeringNews. co.za, MiningWeekly.com, ResearchChannel.com and Polity.org.za were all launched in the early 2000s – at the same time the weekly newspapers Engineering News and Mining Weekly were redesigned into a news magazine format.

 

Throughout the first twenty years of the twenty-first century Creamer Media has continued to shape and re-shape its print and online publications – launching iOS and Android Apps, wearables, video shows and podcasts, as well as print, email and digital supplements with the overall vision of giving its readers “news you can use” while adapting to rapidly changing reader habits and publishing possibilities.

 

As Creamer Media reaches its 40th anniversary milestone – Martin Creamer, editor of Mining Weekly, and Terence Creamer, editor of Engineering News– remain confident that as the publishing frontier continues

 

to expand Creamer Media will continue to advance its core mission of providing its information-hungry readers with a constant flow of current, credible and comprehensive news.

 

Mission

 

Creamer Media’s mission is to promote current, credible and comprehensive news coverage about economic developments. We aim to provide our readership with accurate and timely information, including in-depth reporting on industrial and mining project developments and on the policies and personalities shaping the real economy.

 

Creamer Media’s news team is based mainly in South Africa, but also includes regular correspondents from other parts of Africa, such as, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Kenya and the rest of the world, including the United Kingdom and Australia.

 

Creamer Media has a track record of investing in new publishing technologies to ensure that we embrace high- quality and reader-friendly print and online news platforms. Our aim is to move with the times to ensure that Creamer Media continues to provide a unique forum where readers can find the kind of accurate news and comment that is critical to business success in the fast-paced, knowledge-based global economy.

 

After 40 years of business-to-business publishing, our weekly print magazine Engineering News & Mining Weekly has earned wide respect for consistently providing businesses with information which opens doors to new opportunities, allows companies to showcase their products, services and branding, and keeps all private- and public-sector participants in the economy at the cutting edge of the constant evolution of the South African and global business environment.

 

Since 2020, Creamer Media has integrated the Engineering News and Mining Weekly print titles into a single, comprehensive weekly print magazine – called Creamer Media’s Engineering News & Mining Weekly. The integration is Creamer Media’s response to changes in the magazine marketplace and evolving reader habits.

 

The print consolidation does not affect Engineering News Online and MiningWeekly.com, which remain separate digital platforms.

 

Mining Weekly.com is a leading provider of global mining news, publishing email newsletters for Africa, Australasia and the Americas. Our Mining Weekly Global Edition, providing a daily mining news roundup, is emailed out to 90 000 readers each day.

 

The online editions of Engineering News Online and MiningWeekly.com enable local and international businesses to communicate their products and services to a worldwide audience. The websites create a platform for international news flow as well as for multimedia features that include video clips, audio clips and weekly TV-like magazine shows, Creamer Media’s Real Economy Report and Creamer Media’s Resources Watch.

 

Creamer Media’s recently launched Virtual Showroom allows companies to communicate information about their latest product and services offerings, through the publication of product brochures, product videos and direct contact information. Company presence in Creamer Media’s Virtual Showroom is boosted through listing of product information on Creamer Media’s weekly Product Portal email newsletter and through Creamer Media’s popular social media channels including Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram.

Creamer Media also publishes Polity under the slogan “deepening democracy through access to information”. Polity, to be found at www.polity.org.za, provides daily news, and offers free access to South African legislation, as well as official speeches and important policy documents. Analysis and video interviews with leading South African opinion makers and authors are also regularly published on Polity.

 

The online research tool, Research Channel Africa, provides intelligence on industry and mining in Southern Africa. Subscribers to Research Channel Africa are able to conduct instant searches through the full Creamer Media news archive, as well as access detailed current reports on industrial and mining projects and sectors.

 

With the mobile revolution, Creamer Media has made all of its news sites available on mobile phones and tablet devices. Apps for phones and wearable devices have also been developed for Engineering News, Mining Weekly and Polity.
